Our Master

The life of Swami Chinmayananda (8th May 1916 – 3rd August 1993) was one of extraordinary spiritual strength, immeasurable love and tireless service. In less than half a century, he established Chinmaya Mission, hundreds of institutions and countless devotees. This was all aimed at discovering the Eternal Self within, which is the very theme of the Bhagavad Geeta.

The Geeta was Swami Chinmayananda’s life breath. His name is synonymous with it; in particular His commentary “The Holy Geeta” has had a lasting impact on those who have gone into its depths.

Vision

The vision that Shri Krishna gave Arjuna via the Bhagavad Geeta in its essence is not different from the vision of Chinmaya Mission:

The inner transformation of individuals through knowledge of Vedanta, spiritual practices and service to society, resulting in a happy world around them.

Mission

“The Holy Geeta” is a manual for living; it offers something to everyone. The Mission statement of Chinmaya Mission reflects the universal and timeless wisdom of the Geeta and Upanishads: To provide to individuals from any background, the wisdom of Vedanta and the practical means for spiritual growth and happiness, enabling them to become positive contributors to society.

Geeta Jnana Yajnas

Series of free public discourses on the Bhagavad Geeta, which happen across the world, in various languages. They are named Jnana Yajnas as through such study, ignorance is sacrificed in the fire of Self-knowledge.

Camps

At Sadhana Camps, seekers are encouraged to temporarily ‘renounce’ the world, briefly shelve daily problems and spend time in study, contemplation and introspection. An opportunity for immersion in knowledge and devotion.

Geeta Chanting

Chanting classes inspire and motivate attendees to know the meaning of the verses. A Geeta chanting competition for children is organized by Chinmaya Mission Centres and Chinmaya Vidyalayas every year. Chant Geeta, enchant Krishna!

Weekly Geeta Study Classes

A chapter-by-chapter group discussion forum at the same time and place on a fixed day of the week. Contact your local Chinmaya Mission Centre to start your systematic study of the Bhagavad Geeta with like-minded sincere seekers.
